As one of its activities that contribute to society, every year since 1993, Cosmo Oil Co., Ltd. (Head Office: 1-1-1 Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo; Capital: 51.9 billion yen; President: Yaichi Kimura) has sponsored the ″Cosmo Waku Waku Camp″ – a program for elementary school students, who have lost their parent(s) in traffic accidents, that allows them to experience nature. This year again, the three-day two-night camp was held in Niiharu Village, Gunma Prefecture from August 5 to 7.
Recently at Cosmo Oil, nothing is more important to us than dealing with global environmental problems, and we continue to make effort to the global environment across various fields, striving to be a ″leading company for environment protection″. Similarly with the ″Cosmo Waku Waku Camp″, which is a social contribution activity, we placed emphasis on ″environmental education″ and our originality, as well as making it a program for the mental care and inspiration of these children who have lost their parent(s) in traffic accidents.
The theme this year was ″The adventurous journey to find yourself. Everyone finding their vigorous spirit in the great outdoors.″ The camp was held in the buildings of a closed down elementary school, and was conducted with the collaboration of the NPO National Outfitters Training School, which has substantial experience in nature programs and with the care of children who have lost their parent(s). The main program on the second day included raft-making with old metal drums and raft games on Lake Akaya. On the third day, Cosmo Oil employees had handouts for the children on fuel-cell vehicles and hydrogen energy, and after an introduction there was a test-drive event - delivery of an original program and participation by volunteer employees.
The ″Cosmo Waku Waku Camp″ was run by a staff of 19 Cosmo Group employees from around the country. They prepared for over three months with training and took responsibility for all aspects of the children′s stay at the camp including health and safety.
