Cosmo Oil makes the “ NGO Global Village ” a “ CO2 free village. ”
Cosmo Oil has provided “ carbon dioxide emission rights ” equivalent to the amount of CO2 emitted in generating the electricity used in the management and activities of the “ NGO Global Village, ” thereby making it a “ CO2 free village.”

Cosmo Oil agreed with and signed an option contract for the emission rights in Australia in June 2001.

Total
amount when exercising the entire option: 2,800,000 CO2 ton / 11 years

Contract
period: 2001 to 2012

Option
contract: a contract in which Cosmo Oil can purchase the emission rights for
the CO2 absorbed by eucalyptus trees (original predicted total: 2,800,000 CO2
ton (converted)) on a preferential basis every year for 11 years from 2001 to
2012. By exercising the option rights, we obtained emission rights for 24,000
tons in September 2002, and 47,489 tons in September 2003.

About
the amounts of carbon dioxide absorption amounts
These are calculated based on the “ Guideline for Calculating GHGs Emissions by Private Companies (Draft ver 1.5), ” issued by the Global Environment Bureau, Ministry of the Environment, where electrical power suppliers generate electricity using thermal power, hydraulic power, or nuclear power, in which CO2 is generated by burning fossil fuel in thermal electric power generation.Find the consumption (kWh) of supplied electricity and multiply with the emission coefficient.
Emission (kg CO2) = electricity consumption (kWh) x emission coefficient (kg CO2 / kWh)
Emission (kg CO2) = 1,117,844kWh/year x 0.378kg CO2 / kWh = 422,545kg CO2 ≒ 423t CO2
Emission coefficient = 0.378kg CO2 / kWh (Nine electrical power companies including Chubu Electric Power Company, and Okinawa Electric Power)
